Mohamed Al-Fayed

Pak-American billionaire Shahid Khan has purchased Fulham Football Club from the long-serving owner Mohamed Al-Fayed and now controls 100% of the London-based club.

Shahid Khan was listed as the 491st wealthiest man in the world according to Forbes in 2012 and is worth $2.9 billion ( 1.92 bn) as or March 2013 – more than twice as much as Al-Fayed.

After 16 years at Craven Cottage, the Egyptian is leaving the Cottagers behind after seeing them gain two promotions and reach the UEFA Europa League final under his ownership.

It all began in May 1997 for Mohamed Al-Fayed when he purchased Fulham Football Club in the summer of 1997 shortly after they gained promotion from the Third Division (fourth tier) as runners-up to Wigan Athletic.

The deal cost the successful Egyptian businessman 6.25m. It is reported that Al-Fayed has sold the club for somewhere between 150-200m.

Al-Fayed’s first season as the owner of Fulham saw them finish sixth in the third tier – losing to Grimsby Town in the semi-finals. Micky Adams started the season as manager, Kevin Keegan ended it at the helm. Players included future manager Chris Coleman and other ex-Premier League players Maik Taylor, Alan Neilson, Ian Selley, Paul Bracewell, Paul Trollope and Paul Moody.

Kevin Keegan guided Fulham into the second tier of English football the following season – amassing a 14-point lead over runners-up Walsall as the Cottagers gained 101 points in 1998-99. Players include Philippe Albert (loan), Rufus Brevett, Steve Finnan, Kit Symons, Gus Uhlenbeek, John Salako, Peter Beardsley, Barry Hayles and Geoff Horsfield.

A top-half finish followed during their first season in Division One (now known as the Championship). With the investments Al-Fayed was making (Marcus Hahnemann, Andy Melville, Lee Clark, Bjarne Goldb k, Karl-Heinz Riedle) and new manager Jean Tigana, this team had ambitions to reach the top.

In their second season in the second tier, Fulham achieved just that. Another 101 points were posted – this time finishing 10-points above runners-up Blackburn Rovers. Louis Saha had top-scored for the club whilst John Collins had also been acquired.

Fulham had flown through the lower leagues – three promotions in five seasons; two of these since Mohamed Al-Fayed had taken over and invested in the club.

Louis Saha was a big hit during his first season in the Premier League, scoring 8 goals, joint-top scorer with Barry Hayles and newly-signed Steed Malbranque. To sure things up at the back, Edwin van der Sar had been signed in a 7.1 million deal from Italian Serie A giants Juventus.

During their first two Premier League campaigns, Fulham would use Queens Park Rangers’ Loftus Road as their home stadium whilst Craven Cottage underwent 8 million worth of refurbishment to bring the ground up to Premier League standards.

The 2013-14 season with be Fulham’s thirteenth consecutive in the Premier League and their first without Mohamed Al-Fayed. Their highest finish came in 2008-09 when they finished 7th under Roy Hodgson. The following season, the future England national team manager guided them to the UEFA Europa League final, losing to Atl tico Madrid.

Both van der Sar and Saha would go on to win Premier League titles with Manchester United, as would Chris Smalling more recently. Other exciting players to make a name for themselves at Fulham included Junichi Inamoto, Sylvain Legwinski, Papa Bouba Diop, Clint Dempsey and Mousa Demb l .

Sometimes I think of my life as like my very own TV show. I’m the main character, everything that happens to me matters, I’ve got friends who provide everything from comic relief and wacky antics to drama and love. If anyone ever pisses me off I just think “who cares? they’re merely an uncredited extra to my main character’s awesome life!”

But once in a while everyone meets someone who is just that much more interesting, popular or successful and it can be hard to deal with. This, of course, happens in the world of television and often takes place in the form of a plotline or episode so we can watch how these characters react. It’s happened to many loved characters from Zack Morris in Saved by the Bell to Lisa in The Simpsons.

But what I wanted to do with this article was approach this phenomenon analytically and look at the less obvious and more subtle transitions, the motivation, actions and acting ability of supporting characters who begin to steal the spotlight from the character the show is based around. Sometimes it happens so well you barely notice until you’re watching one day and thinking “when did this guy become the coolest person on the show?”

Because I am analysing characters on shows which have run from anywhere between two and eight seasons, I will be talking about plot points and over-arcing storylines so there will be spoilers for people who haven’t seen them. However most of them are for shows that are now finished, with the exception of one which is still running but was broadcast within months and not days or weeks.

Glad to see her smiling again!

After a stressed out gym sesh the other day, it’s good to see that Reese Witherspoon was back to being America’s sweetheart on Thursday!

And, can we take a quick look at those incredible pants of hers??

She wore a pair of Paige Denim‘s bicycle-printed crop pants and a black tee to have lunch at Divino in Brentwood.

At first glance, we thought she had stepped out in her PJs, which would have made us love her even more, but it turns out, that adorable print was meant for every day wear!

Reese finished the look with some black Rachel Zoe gladiator sandals, a small black shoulder bag, and what looks like a snack.

Maybe that’s why she’s so happy!

We were right about her neck tattoo not being permanent!

The colorful stars previously spotted on Rachel Bilson‘s neck were noticeably missing as she walked around Comic-Con in San Diego on Thursday.

She kept things interesting in a Marc Jacobs panther print blouse and a neutral miniskirt. We love the retro vibe we get from the ensemble, and the purple Ray-Bans and bright orange bag were a nice splash of color.

Simple suede pumps let Rachel’s legs do the talking as she made her way to the WIRED Cafe.

Way to make Ron Burgundy proud in his grand city of San Diego! You stay classy!

If you’re in Milan this weekend, you may want to cancel your shopping plans. Or just hit up the Gucci boutique instead of Dolce & Gabbana!

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have closed their boutiques in Milan from July 19 to July 21 because they’re mad as hell and they’re not gonna take it anymore!

The designers have shuttered their nine (!) individual stores in the city in order to express their “indignation” at the Councillor for Commerce Franco D’Alfonso‘s negative remarks regarding the pair’s recent tax problems.

D’Alfonso reportedly said that the designers should not be allowed to show their 2014 collections in Milan since they were found guilty of tax evasion last month because, “We don’t need to be represented by tax evaders.”

And even though D’Alfonso apologized for his comments, saying that they were “not given in an interview, but extrapolated from an informal conversation,” Dolce and Gabbana are still offended and will keep their stores closed all weekend long.

But, yay, three-day weekend for all the employees!

Read the designers’ full statement…AFTER THE JUMP!!!

We are no longer willing to suffer the charges unjust by the Guardia di Finanza and Italian Revenue Agency, the attacks of the prosecutors and the media pillory to which we have been subjected to for years. This is not only for ourselves, but also for all those who work with us.

Finally, outraged at how we were treated by the City of Milan, we decided to close the shops of the city (nine financial centers) for the next three days starting today. We were born in Milan and to this city we have always been grateful. We must say, however, that in the last thirty years’ in this city we also have given so much back: prestige and international visibility, jobs and economic development.

In our Milan shops alone we employe more than 250 people, who in the coming days will be paid regularly, although the activity will be closed. Despite our passion and the sense of responsibility which will lead us to continue to work with dedication and willingness, we declare that we bare tired of the constant defamation and insults that are taking away serenity from our work and are turning us away from our true work as designers.

We are fortunate to work with people of true and rare excellence, both from the techincal and professional point of view, and in terms of human values, who firmly believe in us and for which all of this is discouraging. The closure of our boutoques in Milan is a sign of our disdain.

Sure, they’ll lose some money, but really, it’s the PRINCIPLE of the matter!

Even in 2003, we’d still Channing all over his Tatum.

Srsly, though, as if the stripper pics weren’t embarrassing enough, now there are new-old pics of Channing Tatum strutting his stuff for Diddy and Marc Ecko.

Both the pic of Channing rocking a ridiculous, oversized Sean John fur-trim coat (top) and Ecko letterman jacket (bottom) were taken during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week back in 2003, and we honestly can’t pick which of the looks is our favorite.

Is it the tights or the XXL leather pants look?

Hmmm, which one would U choose???

We have to say, we’re big fans of the way Kourtney Kardashian dresses her little guy, Mason.

Whether they’re vacationing or out and about, the 3-year-old always looks really comfortable.

On May 9, Mason wore a black-and-white print ensemble from one of our fave kiddie labels, Mini & Maximus, while heading to dinner with his mom in Calabasas, Calif.

The matching tank ($50) and harem-style shorts ($58) are made with 100 percent linen and feature hip shark drawings that were actually created by a kid.

Now that his aunt has welcomed a daughter, we bet his new cousin will be wearing the brand soon too. Our pick for Kim and Kanye‘s mini princess: the organic cotton Shark Whisperer tee ($38).

According to the latest Hollywood news regarding CORY MONTEITH‘s shocking death (due to a lethal mix of alcohol and heroin), the police have officially concluded their investigation and have ruled the actor’s passing as an “accidental overdose.”

MTO 007115

Three days after Cory Monteith‘s shocking death on the 21st floor of the Fairmount Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver, results of his autopsy have been released and police investigation has officially been closed.

Just a few hours earlier, the British Columbia Coroner Service revealed that the “Glee” star, who just completed his rehab stint in April for drug addiction, suffered from “a mixed drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol.” It has then left law enforcement officers to conclude that his cause of death was an “accidental overdose.”

The Vancouver police told reporters in a press conference on Tuesday afternoon:

“The results released by the coroners service support the findings of our investigators and their beliefs upon initial examination that there was no foul play and that this was an overdose and a tragic accident.”

One of the cops, Brian Montague, continued:

“It was pretty clear that there was no struggle, no evidence of foul play, and that there was evidence in the room that was consistent with drug use.”

Montague said they believe “when he took the heroin he was alone” and that Cory, who went back to his room at 2:15 a.m. after hanging out with friends, had been lifeless for hours before he was found.

What they found in the actor’s room remains undisclosed to the media, but it looks like it’s not much of an issue right now.

Although they’ve already conducted an interview-with two women and one man that Cory hung out with at bars before his death-they won’t be looking for the drug source “unless new information comes to light.”

The cop explained:

“There’s no law in Canada where we can request charges against someone who’s provided drugs to an individual. There’s an inherent risk when you’re using illicit drugs and there’s nothing in this situation that we can see that would cause us to pursue the investigation further.”

There you have it.

HEIDI KLUM showed off her breasts and her toned abs in a new topless “selfie” that she posted on her Twitter this week.

Prepare to be a little shocked…

heidi klum toplesss

Okay, VERY shocked.

Just a little over a week after flashing her butt crack on her Instagram, Heidi Klum has gone back to flaunting her boobs during a recent beach trip, where she appears to have gone topless yet again.

In the new self-portrait that she uploaded on Tuesday, the German supermodel covers her nipples with just her left forearm while also showing off her bikini bottom, her sunkissed abs and a smiley face drawn out of sand and seashells.

Interestingly, Heidi captioned it with a simple:

Yep. We already are.
