Katy Perry

The mayor of Hartford, Connecticut blasted Dave Chappelle over his performance walk-out last Thursday night, telling him to “quit whining” following a gig in Chicago, Illinois where he blasted the city. Some might say he got racist, and he also called for North Korea to nuke the city. (story)

Katy Perry’s video for her latest single, ‘Roar’, has arrived, and the song has also knocked Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” from the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. (story)

Naomi Watts stars as Princess Diana in the new movie biopic “Diana”, and she dazzled on the red carpet for the film’s London premiere. (story)

Unfortunately, British critics are blasting the movie, calling it as awful as the car crash that took her life in 1997. (story)

Nobody can seem to get their Lamar Odom facts straight. The NBA star reportedly checked into rehab on Wednesday, but that story wasn’t confirmed and he reportedly fell off the radar. Now they’re saying he spent a day in rehab and left already. He’s also suppopsedly gone on a crack binge. (story)

Gina Gershon will be playing fashion icon Donatella Versace in a new movie, and she looks exactly like her — well, without all the weathering. Naturally, since we’re talking about Gina Gershon, it’s a made-for-TV movie that will air on Lifetime (you didn’t seriously think she’d land a leading role for a big Hollywood production, did you?) (story)

Jack Osbourne’s wife has reportedly suffered a miscarriage. The reality star’s wife, Lisa Stelly, announced that the couple was ecpecting their second child last month, but things took a turn for the worse last week. (story)

Justin Bieber‘s hanging around with Chris Brown now. This should be good. (story)

Everyone’s talking about the recent casting for “Fifty Shades of Grey”. No one likes who producers picked for the lead roles of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. We came up with 10 stars who would be better in each role, both lists are based on who we’d want to see getting it on hardcore S&M style, of course:

Syfy

The strange success of Syfy’s Sharknado movie – which former “90210” star Ian Ziering called his “John Travolta ‘Pulp Fiction’ moment,” by the way – can probably be attributed to the same cultural normative (or abnormative, we should say) that made “Bubba Teeth” a hit: Every now and then, people just like to drop all pretense and participate in the humor of things.

But it looks like it may just be those producers who took a chance on such an utterly ridiculous movie concept who get the last laugh when this thing hits actual theaters. ‘Cause that’s happening now.

Yep, “Sharknado” took the TV-observing world by storm, pun intended, for several reasons, not the least of which was an out-right social media frenzy over the unashamed ridiculousness of the film. Live-tweeting it was kind of the thing to do that night (’cause what else is going down on some random Thursday evening?).

While viewership itself was ultimately just so-so, it was the web impact that really had teeth; at one point, the title was reportedly the subject of 5,000 tweets a minute.

And though Syfy’s been responding to the interest with shark-themed marathons and, yes, even plans for a sequel (!!), they’ve now got even bigger aspirations to see what kinda damage this thing can do on the big screen.

That’s right. Regal Entertainment will be hosting midnight screenings of “Sharknado” on Aug. 2 at some 200 theaters across the country.

“‘Sharknado’ has become a force of nature in its own right,” a rep for the theater chain explained. “The project transcends the original television platform and has created tremendous buzz. There’s just something epic about watching these huge beasts on the big screen with your friends and family. The crowd reactions will make for a memorable experience in our theatres … Regal is proud to be giving our guests this chance to fuel the social media whirlwind by inviting friends to come to the show and tweeting reactions.”

So … sticking with the weather-y theme, will lightning strike twice with this “Sharknado” thing?

Miley Cyrus

MTV is developing an hour-long Miley Cyrus documentary that will air later this year.

The singer/actress invited cameramen to tag along while she was working on her new album. According to MTV’s president of programming, Susanne Daniels, the film will spotlight the star’s transition from “Disney princess to legitimate artist and fashion icon.”

Cyrus’ current single, “We Can’t Stop,” is No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. She recently admitted that the song is about taking drugs at a party. She told London’s Daily Mail: “I don’t think people have a hard time understanding that I’ve grown up. You can Google me and you know what I’m up to — you know what that lyric is saying.”

The singer, 20, also just got naked for Marc Jacobs’ skin cancer awareness campaign. She posed completely nude for the “Protect the Skin You’re In” campaign, which features the star on a line of t-shirts.

Cyrus kicked off her showbiz career by starring in the Disney series “Hannah Montana” from 2006-11. She has since been working hard to prove she’s “grown up” and eschew her good girl image.

Mike O'Malley

Glee fans know Mike O’Malley as Kurt’s (Chris Colfer) father, a single dad who dated Finn’s (Cory Monteith) mother. O’Malley has a new show on NBC, Welcome to the Family, and when NBC presented the show to the Television Critics Association, O’Malley shared his thoughts on Monteith’s death and plans to appear in the Glee episode about Finn’s funeral.

“I hope to,” O’Malley said. “I’m here doing Welcome to the Family and we shoot one episode five days a week, but Burt is a very, very important role to me. It’s been a great, great part and I’ve said to all those guys I’ll work early in the morning, late at night, Saturdays, Sundays to participate in not only continuing to be on that show, but honoring Cory and his passing and that character. He is on the show my stepson so I certainly plan on being there, and they may possibly be shooting that episode in the time we’re on hiatus.”

Recalling his time with Monteith, O’Malley praised his work in a famous scene where Burt caught Finn using the F-word towards his son. “I had many of my scenes on Glee with either Chris Colfer or Cory Monteith,” O’Malley said. “I think that I had what was probably the toughest scene I’ve ever acted in my career as an actor opposite him when I had to throw him out of the house because his character Finn out of the house because of a slur that he used. It was remarkable to me when we were shooting that scene over and over again, the depth of emotion that he was able to portray, the sorrow, the shame.”

Since Monteith died, all of his Glee costars have spoke about his kindness and work ethic, O’Malley included. “Ever since I met him, he was the fictional quarterback on that show and he was the very real quarterback on that set. He was an incredibly warm guy, a guy who was welcoming to everyone who came on that show from the beginning through the new folks who came onto the show this past year. He was a very, very hard working actor. I just loved working with him. He was a great guy. I miss him very much.”

Angelina Jolie

Finding out who wins an Academy Awards is great, but the real competition is on the red carpet. Check out five leading ladies who really got it right!

Angelina Jolie (above) made waves in 2004 in a white satin Marc Bouwer gown with a plunging neckline.

That same year Charlize Theron looked stunning in a white sequined figure-huggin Tom Ford for Gucci gown. Va va voom! Unfortunately, she had a fashion misstep a few years later.

In 2003, Jennifer Lopez took a chance in a mint green Valentino one-shouldered kaftan-styled robe based on a design for Jackie Kennedy.

Penelope Cruz turned heads in 2009 in a vintage Balmain 50’s gown, while Halle Berry sizzled in 2002 in a burgundy Elie Saab gown. She also won “Best Actress” for Monster’s Ball that year.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has famously used her failed romances as song inspiration and has no problem with her musician exes following her example, insisting it’s “fair game.”

The country pop star has dated several well-known stars, including actor Jake Gyllenhaal, rocker John Mayer and One Direction’s Harry Styles. She has become known for break-up anthems like “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and has openly admitted to drawing from her own relationship troubles for the songs.

The tune “Dear John” was reportedly based on her 2009 fling with Mayer, prompting the rocker to criticize at her for making him “feel terrible” with her “cheap songwriting”, but she insists her former lovers are more than welcome to pen songs about their break-up too.

Swift told Britain’s InStyle magazine, “If I’m gonna write songs about my exes they can write songs about me. That’s how it works. I’m not gonna complain about it. I’m not gonna sit there and say, ‘I’m the only one who can write songs about this relationship’. It’s fair game.”

Jermaine Jackson, Now Jacksun

A judge has granted Jermaine Jackson, 58, permission to officially change the spelling of his famous last name.

In November, Michael Jackson’s older brother filed papers in Los Angeles Superior Court, requesting to legally alter his surname to “Jacksun” for “artistic reasons.”

Steve Dennis, a friend of the singer, said Jermaine’s reasons for the spelling change is purely for performance purposes. “Phonetically, it changes nothing,” Dennis told the AP. He added, “It is something he has chosen to do, and it’s fair to say that you cannot blame this one on the boogie, you’ve got to blame it on the sunshine.”

Dennis was referring to one of the Jackson 5’s famous songs “Blame It On The Boogie.”

On Friday a judge approved Jermain’s petition, according to TMZ.com. Jermaine did not attend the hearing because he is currently on tour in Europe with his brothers as The Jacksons.

The singer is married and has nine children. No word on whether any of them are changing their names.

Ethan Hawke

Ethan Hawke has branded the Oscars “destructive” and “fake” in a scathing criticism of the Hollywood awards season just days before the movie industry’s biggest prize giving.

The two-time Oscar nominee, who received nods for 2001’s Training Day and 2004 romance Before Sunset, fears the annual tradition of handing out prizes is detrimental to the industry because it encourages such a fiercely competitive culture.

He is also convinced the Academy Awards have very little value because they have been won by so many “stupid movies” and “mediocre performers” over the years.

In an interview with Gotham magazine, which has emerged online just days before Sunday’s Oscars ceremony, Hawke says, “People want to turn everything in this country into a competition… It’s clear who the winner is and who the loser is. It’s why they like to announce the grosses of movies, because it’s a way of saying, ‘This one is No. 1.’ It’s so asinine…

“If you look at how many forgettable, stupid movies have won Oscars and how many mediocre performers have Oscars above their fireplace. Making a priority of chasing these fake carrots and money and dubious accolades, I think it’s really destructive.”

Kanye West & Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is reportedly against her boyfriend Kanye West’s plan to hire a team of nannies to help take care of their newborn.

The rapper wants to employ an entourage of help when they become parents in July, but the reality star is insisting they care for the baby themselves.

According to The Daily Star, the singer fears Kim will be juggling too much and pointed out that she had a difficult time taking care of her pet kitten Mercy. The source added that Kim couldn’t believe Kanye compared her looking after a pet to being a new mom.

Meanwhile, the couple doesn’t know yet if they’re having a boy or a girl, but Kim recently told E! News: “I don’t know what we’re having yet. I do want to find out, I do.”

Shia LaBeouf

Shia LaBeouf has gone public with private emails between his Orphans co-star Alec Baldwin and director Daniel Sullivan in a bid to explain his sudden decision to leave the Broadway show.

The Transformers star was due to make his New York stage debut opposite Baldwin and Tom Sturridge next month but producers revealed on Wednesday that he had dropped out of the production due to “creative differences”.

Sharing his side of the story, LaBeouf took to Twitter.com and posted a series of screen shots of email exchanges between himself and others, with email addresses allegedly belonging to Sullivan, Baldwin and playwright Lyle Kessler.

In one exchange, the young actor apologizes to Baldwin “for my part of a dis-agreeable situation” while Sullivan’s reported response reads, “I’m too old for disagreeable situations. you’re one hell of a great actor. Alec is who he is. you are who you are. you two are incompatible. i should have known it. this one will haunt me. you tried to warn me. you said you were a different breed. i didn’t get it.”

Baldwin writes, “I’ve been through this before. It’s been a while. And perhaps some of the particulars are different. But it comes down to the fact that what we all do now is critical. Perhaps especially for you. When the change comes, how do we handle it, whether it be good or bad? What do we learn?”

He adds, “I don’t have an unkind word to say about you. You have my word,” to which LaBeouf replies, “same… good luck on the play. you’ll be great.”

The revival of Lyle Kessler’s 1983 play is still scheduled to open for previews at the Schoenfeld Theatre in New York on March 19th. The production will officially launch on April 7th.

A replacement for LaBeouf has not yet been named.
