Chris Brown is sinking deeper into legal hot water: he has now been sued in connection to an alleged altercation between his and Frank Ocean‘s entourages earlier this year.

The “Thinkin Bout You” singer’s cousin, Sha’keir Duarte, maintains he was attacked by a member of Brown’s crew during a confrontation between the singers in the parking lot of Los Angeles-area Westlake Recording Studios on January 27, The Associated Press reports.

Duarte is seeking unspecified damages from Brown in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming he suffered a concussion as well as other collateral damage – like humiliation and mental anguish – as a result of the assault. Brown’s attorney Mark Geragos called the case frivolous, saying he will seek to have it dismissed and will countersue Duarte.

Ocean, for his part, never filed criminal or civil charges against Brown, taking to his Tumblr to announce he chose “peace” in the aftermath of the much-publicized fight.

This is just the latest in Brown’s long-running legal woes. Last month, Brown’s probation – stemming from his 2009 assault of on-and-off girlfriend Rihanna – was revoked as a result of hit-and-run charges from a May car crash, to which he pleaded not guilty. He is now scheduled to be in court on Aug. 15, when a date will be set for a hearing to determine whether or not Brown violated his probation when he left the scene of the accident

As these legal issues have stacked up, Brown suffered a non-epileptic seizure while working in a Los Angeles studio last week. The singer’s publicist, Nicole Perna, blamed the seizure on fatigue and extreme emotional stress, explaining that Brown was examined by a doctor but not hospitalized.

We’re thinkin’ bout you, Frank.

Frank Ocean has been forced to call off his sold-out Australian tour as a result of a vocal chord tear. During opening night of his inaugural tour Down Under on Thursday, the R&B singer struggled with his voice, sounding strangely off-key at times.

“After last night’s concert…it was necessary to seek medical advice due to vocal issues Frank Ocean experienced,” said a statement on the promoter LiveNation’s Facebook page. “It has subsequently been confirmed that Frank has suffered a small tear to one of his vocal chords and has received medical advice that he must rest his voice.”

After a performance of “Forrest Gump” (above) – a hit off his universally-acclaimed freshman album, channel ORANGE – Frank told the audience, “I’m sick… I don’t know if you care,” according to reports.

The mini-tour of four dates was planned around his appearance at the Splendour in the Grass music festival, hosted in the beach town of Byron Bay. But now Frank will be out of commission for that, as well.

“With Splendour already in full swing this is devastating news for the event and will be for many of our patrons,” a festival spokesperson commented.

Get well soon, Frank.

Frank Ocean has chosen “peace” over payback.

Nearly one week after his alleged scuffle with Chris Brown in a Los Angeles parking lot, Ocean confirmed on his Tumblr late Saturday night that he won’t be looking for justice after all.

“As a child I thought if someone jumped me it would result in me murdering or mutilating a man. But as a man I am not a killer,” he wrote in capital letters.

“I’m an artist and a modern person. I’ll choose sanity. No criminal charges. No civil lawsuit. Forgiveness, albeit difficult, is wisdom. Peace, albeit trite, is what I want in my short life. Peace.”

Following the Jan. 27 incident, which involved six people, L.A. County Sherriff spokesman Steve Whitmore confirmed that Ocean, 25, “is desirous of prosecution in this incident.”

Brown, 24, still has one year left in his five-year probation from his 2009 assault on Rihanna.

But as HLN’s Jane Velez-Mitchell said earlier this week, the singer will probably avoid jail time.

“We all know that when big stars violate their probation, if they have high-powered attorneys, they seem to get away without spending any significant time behind bars, if they even visit a jail . . . we do have a two-tiered criminal justice system in this country, one for all of us and one for the rich and famous.”

Ocean is scheduled to perform at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 10.

What do you think of Frank Ocean’s announcement? Do you think he made the right decision?
