Anna Chlumsky Welcomes Daughter Penelope Joan

Rob Kim/WireImage

Anna Chlumsky, who shot to fame as a child star in 1991 s My Girl, has a little girl of her own now.

Chlumsky and her entrepreneur husband Shaun So, both 32, welcomed daughter Penelope Joan So on Thursday, July 11 in New York City, she tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“She’s a really good mix between my husband and me,” the Veep actress tells PEOPLE. “When she’s with him, you see him, and when she’s with me, you see me. She’s a perfect mix.”

“We think she has my mouth, but it’s hard to tell. Even the color of her eyes, they are different in different light. But she has a really full head of hair.”

It’s been quite a week for Chlumsky, who on Thursday also earned her first Emmy nomination for her work on Veep.

“I’m still in shock. When I got the call I wasn’t sleeping because I was breastfeeding my daughter,” she says. “It was neat because it was me and my husband and my daughter all in the room getting the news at the same time. When [my manager] told me, it was that nervous, happy, appreciative laughter. I just laughed a lot! It feels really great to have your work noticed.”

Not surprisingly, Chlumsky is on cloud nine about all the new developments. “I’m really, really happy. I’m just smiley,” she says. “I have this new bundle of love that’s now in my life. She has made my life even better.”

And motherhood? “I’m really surprised how real it is,” she says. “What’s really strange is how fast it happened. You prepare for so long, and all of a sudden the baby’s here … It’s seriously the best thing. Holding her is fantastic. It’s one of the more enjoyable things. It doesn’t get boring at all. I could hold her all day.”

Laila Ali DesignCare

David Livingston/Getty

She went her entire boxing career undefeated, winning 21 of her matches by knockout, but it looks like Laila Ali has finally met her match.

In this corner, at two years old, undisputed diaper belt champ of the world, Sydney J.

“Sydney is paying me back for all the hard times that I gave my mother, trust me,” Ali, 35, tells PEOPLE, while attending this weekend’s 15th Annual DesignCare benefiting The HollyRod Foundation.

“She is paying me back, and everyone says, ‘Hey, that was you!’ because I treated my mom bad in my teens, but Sydney just has a lot of energy. She has her own mind and she is going to do whatever she wants to do.”

And as far as Sydney is concerned, doing what she wants to do rarely blends with what her mother wants her to do.

“She’s like, ‘No!!’ Everything is, ‘No!!'” Ali says. “She just pushes me to the limit, where I am always trying to find new ways to discipline [her] so that she can understand that she can’t do certain things.”

Every parent knows the difficulty attached to navigating through those terrible twos, but as far as Ali is concerned, her daughter has taken being a toddler tyrant to a new level, one that amuses even while it exasperates, but invariably leaves the busy mama searching for answers.

“Am I going to count her down?! Am I going to give her a time out?! Am I going to take her bunny?!” Ali says to PEOPLE while letting out a bewildered laugh before asking, “What am I going to do? Because with her, everything stops working.”

Well, almost everything.

“I give her M&Ms,” admits the stunning Ali. “That’s a pay-off. I will say, ‘Sydney, I will give you a piece of chocolate.’ And that is bad! I love the girl to death, don’t get me wrong, but she tries me!”

Paula Garces Expecting Second Child

Jemal Countess/Getty

When Paula Garces went for an annual check-up at her doctor’s office, she got unexpected news: she was pregnant.

“It’s a miracle!” the actress tells PEOPLE exclusively.

Indeed, the Devious Maids and All My Children star, 39, and her husband Antonio Hernandez, an entrepreneur and producer, had all but given up hope after years of trying for a baby led to two miscarriages.

“We’re excited to finally be pregnant after so many years and make my daughter the best big sister, and my husband an amazing dad,” says Garces, who is best known as Maria from the hit Harold & Kumar franchise.

Garces – already mom to 21-year-old Skye Mahoney from a previous relationship – is thrilled to be expecting again.

“I can’t wait to debut my belly at Comic Con this July,” says Garces, who will also debut her new comic book trilogy Aluna, the namesake of the first Latina video game superhero character.

Another perk of the pregnancy? Once the couple got the great news, Hernandez whisked his wife off to a getaway beach weekend at the Hard Rock Hotel in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, to celebrate.

Marc Cherry‘s new show Devious Maids airs Sundays on Lifetime.

Melissa Joan Hart: I Want Another Baby

Matt Peyton/Invision for Carousel Designs/AP

Melissa Joan Hart says that maintaining her post-baby weight loss is “a struggle” – but not necessarily one she wants to get involved in.

The mother of three boys admits that following the birth of her youngest son Tucker in September, she felt the need to drop the dress sizes.

“Immediately after having babies everyone is talking about how quickly they can lose the weight. Really, who cares?” she told PEOPLE at last Wednesday’s Operation Shower event, sponsored by Carousel Designs and held in New Jersey.

Hart, who hosted the event which gifts military moms-to-be with baby shower essentials, feels the pressure growing as her son gets older, adding that “as he reaches a year I have less and less excuses to not maintain myself.”

Instead of stressing out in the quest to stay svelte, the actress, 37, who achieved her goal with the help of NutriSystem, urges new moms to “celebrate and enjoy that time in your life, but try to be healthy for the children.”

That goes for other celebrity moms too. When Kate Middleton stepped out to debut baby George with her mommy tummy in full view, Hart’s immediate reaction was one of gratitude.

“Thank God! That’s what it’s supposed to be! You still look pregnant for about six weeks, maybe longer. My boys were asking me if I was having another baby a few months after!” she shares.

The level-headed mom will also soon be able to share her motherly wisdom with good friend Soleil Moon Frye, who recently announced she is expecting her third child.

Hart says Frye, who costarred with her on the hit series Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, had tried to share her exciting news in person. “I was on vacation and she was trying to get me to fly back home so she could tell me. I figured it would happen soon. She’s a baby-lover, like me,” she explains.

The star of ABC Family’s Melissa & Joey wouldn’t rule out having another baby, but not for the reason most people would presume.

“I would like a fourth – but it’s not because I want a girl,” she says of the public’s desire to see her have a daughter.

Although her sons – Mason, 7 , and Brady, 5 – wouldn’t mind a little sister. “Mason, my eldest, is like, ‘We have to have a girl, we need things to soften up around here.'”

Hart, however, has her own methods for making sure her little boys are in touch with their feminine side. “I’ve been making them watch My Little Pony, so it’s all good,” she jokes.

Vanessa Lachey Jokes: Nick Would Be Willing to Nurse

Yitzhak Dalal/Hilton Media Group

She’s got a new job on the sitcom Dads, but Vanessa Lachey is also busy planning not one but two birthday parties – for her son, Camden John, and husband, Nick.

“The same year I’m planning my son’s first birthday, I’m also planning my husband’s 40th birthday [in November], so it’s been quite an interesting process [with] different scales of things,” the actress, 32, told PEOPLE at the TCAs.

“I’m planning over here what kind of wine we’re gonna have and the liquor, and over here I’m like, streamers and beach balls!”

Sitting with her castmates, Tonito Castro and Brenda Song, from the Seth McFarlane sitcom (which premieres on Fox on Sept. 17), Lachey says that her life as a working mom is a dream come true.

“I had one of those Oprah aha moments. Literally when I started at MTV and someone said, ‘Ten years from now, where do you see yourself?'” she recalls.

“I remember vividly saying these three things: I see myself married to a great guy. Check – thank goodness! With at least two or three kids – one is good for now, as I’m learning I’ll take that slowly. And to have a multicam sitcom, because I think there’s something beautiful about being able to come into people’s homes and entertain them once a week.”

But in the Lachey home, it’s little Camden – who turns one on Thursday – who’s the entertainer.

“He loves to dance, he loves music,” Lachey says. “He loves the water – the pool, swimming, the beach – to the point that when we give him water and try to sign ‘Drink, drink,’ he literally puts his face in the cup and starts [acting] like he wants to go swimming.”

She adds, “But I won’t do a pool party for his first birthday ’cause I feel like we have the rest of his life to do pool parties. He’s 1, this one’s for Mom and Dad.”

Dania Ramirez Pregnant Expecting Twins

Jason LaVeris/Filmmagic

When Dania Ramirez went to her doctor three weeks ago, she got some “incredible” news – the Devious Maids star was expecting twins!

“I had the first appointment and the woman who’s doing the sonogram looks and says, ‘Oh, I love to start my morning with great news!'” Ramirez, 33, tells PEOPLE. “My husband [John Amos Beverly Land] was like, ‘Okay, we already know she’s pregnant…’ and she goes, ‘Oh no – it’s going to be two!'”

“My husband was like, ‘What?’ And then she goes, ‘Hold on, let me look for a third,’ and my husband says, ‘Get that out of her right now!'” the actress recalls with a laugh.

Ramirez says she never expected to have twins – even though they do run in her family.

“My grandmother has twins and triplets, but it’s still shocking and it’s still surprising,” she says. “My older sister has two kids – and she didn’t get twins – so it wasn’t like ‘How could this happen?’ but at the same time, I was thinking one.”

The news is especially funny because Ramirez says that, even as a child, she was enamored with the idea of having twins.

“When I was younger I was like, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if I could just bang them out at one time?'” jokes Ramirez. “I’d never have to worry about it … wouldn’t it be great to only get fat one time?”

Speaking of weight gain, that’s exactly what Ramirez thought was happening when she first discovered her slight belly bulge a few months ago.

“I felt this little bump,” recalls Ramirez. “And I said, ‘Oh my God, let me do some crunches, I’m eating too much.’ That’s how I found out!”

She’s due this winter, although Ramirez doesn’t want to reveal how far along she is – at least at this time

“I’m keeping that to myself right now,” she says. “They’re still little … you saw the sonogram – you can barely see what’s going on!”

Ramirez doesn’t know the sex of the babies yet, but says she doesn’t have a preference either way.

“My husband has an 11-year-old son [Kai]. We got together when he was 8, so I’ve taken on that step-mom role and I started getting the baby bug. At this point I just want them to be healthy and that’s my main concern,” Ramirez explains.

“I come from a family full of women, so having boys would be great. I’m one of three and my mom is one of 10 girls!”

Mark-Paul Gosselaar Nanny Video

Elizabeth Messina

Mark-Paul Gosselaar has a secret – but he’s not sharing!

The Franklin & Bash actor and his wife Catriona McGinn have found out the sex of their first child together, but the couple have decided to keep it under wraps until the September delivery.

“We have two names in the running,” Gosselaar, 39, tells PEOPLE.

Fortunately, the future father-of-three – Gosselaar is also dad to Ava, 7, and Michael, 9, from his previous marriage – doesn’t need to divulge too many details in order to solicit suggestions from his costar Breckin Meyer.

“Breckin Gosselaar, that’s unisex. It can be a boy or girl,” he says, prompting Gosselaar to admit the name has “a ring to it.”

Despite happily discussing their children – Meyer is dad to two daughters – the bantering between the costars quickly turns to their childcare – or lack thereof.

“I don’t raise [my daughters],” Meyer jokes, later adding, “I have a staff!”

“I have people do that … I have nannies!” Gosselaar playfully adds. “Basically we’re slaving away so that we can have nannies.”

But when Meyer clarifies that his children do not have nannies, Gosselaar jumps on the bandwagon, sharing, “I don’t have any nannies either. I don’t!”

All joking aside, according to Meyer, fatherhood was the foundation of the pair’s friendship. “It’s pretty fantastic being a dad,” the actor, 39, says. “I think that’s one of the things we connected with when we first started the show. We both are kind of family guys, family men.”

The season premiere of Franklin & Bash premieres Wednesday at 9 p.m. on TNT.

Lisa Loeb New Album No Fairy Tale

Michael Simon/Startraks

It’s been almost 20 years since the release of her smash hit, but Lisa Loeb just couldn’t “stay” away from the pop rock scene any longer. The singer released her new album, No Fairy Tale, in January.

“I’d been working on a couple of grown up projects — writing songs for two different records — but the projects were going on for a long time,” Loeb, 44, tells PEOPLE.

But a phone call from New Found Glory‘s Chad Gilbert gave Loeb the push she needed to return to the recording studio and make the magic happen. “Chad was more immediate. ‘You wanna do this record? Let’s start now,’ not, ‘Let’s plan and start talking,’” she says.

“As soon as he could, we got together and going through some of my songs I’d written recently and writing [our own].”

Loeb’s long absence, however, has been filled with plenty of chart-topping moments in her personal life, including her marriage to Roey Hershkovitz and the births of the couple’s two children, Lyla Rose, 3, and Emet Kuli, 8 months.

Paired with the launch of her eyewear collection and her decision to branch out into the children’s market — she’s written a kids book and recorded two kiddie albums — Loeb has been busy keeping up with it all, but still manages to find time to tune into the music industry.

“He works in music on Conan. He has a lot of access to seeing all the new bands, so sometimes I’ll pop over there and see something going on,” she explains. “But when you wake up at six in the morning with a baby, the idea of staying out until 2 a.m. is not really practical.”

Fortunately, her toddler‘s taste in music is yet another opportunity for Loeb to reconnect with the rocker realm. “My daughter’s favorite bands are the Foo Fighters and Led Zeppelin,” the mom-of-two says, adding that Lyla “listens to what we listen to” — under one condition.

“Some songs that are sad, she gets really emotional. She may ask us to change the song because it’s too sad,” Loeb shares. “We listen to all kinds of stuff … a lot of alternative and classic rock.”

Luckily for Loeb, her role in motherhood has given her a glimpse into what music kids can relate to — and which songs have adults running for the hills.

“I think the most important thing to do is to tell stories that are very specific and allow yourself to be imaginative, but the lyrics are very visual and specific,” she explains. “It should sound like a well-produced record – it should never talk down to kids because that’ll drive parents crazy.”

Giada De Laurentiis Jade Still Believes in Santa

Courtesy Giada De Laurentiis

The tree’s done. The stockings are hung. Giada De Laurentiis and her family — husband Todd Thompson and their daughter Jade Marie — are officially ready to host the holidays.

“Christmas Eve is the big tradition in an Italian family. It’s when my entire family gets together,” the newest face of Clairol tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“This year, for the first time, it will be held at my house … so Jade and I and my husband are very excited.”

On the menu for the family festivities is “a big fish dinner,” one that no doubt Jade will help her mother to prepare. After all, adds the celebrity chef, she is the unofficial taste tester.

“My daughter loves to cook. We have a lot of laughs together. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and she loves hanging out with me,” De Laurentiis, 42, shares. “The reason she loves it so much is because she can stick her finger in everything and taste it as she goes along.”

Once the big dinner is done with, and the evening starts to wind down, De Laurentiis and Jade will start to prepare for the night’s biggest guest to arrive: Santa Claus. At 4 -years-old, her little girl is still a strong believer in the magic of it all, notes her proud mama.

“She leaves him little treats — for the reindeer and for him too — and she’s very much a believer in Santa,” De Laurentiis says. “I hope she’ll be a believer for a long time, I think it’s really fun for kids to be able to do that.”

Recently, the pair sat down to write out Jade’s wish list, but after much pleading on Jade’s part over the past few weeks, it’s no surprise as to what she hopes to find under the tree this year.

“The one thing she keeps asking me for over and over again is clip-on earrings. She must have seen them on somebody else, but she has asked me for clip-on earrings for the past month,” De Laurentiis notes. “I am on a mission to find clip-on earrings for her because I don’t think she’ll ever forgive me if I don’t.”

But based on her newly transformed play space, the “girly girl’s” specific accessory request should come as no surprise.

“She’s opened up her own little salon in her playroom. She gives free makeovers, she curls people’s hair and gives them little manicures as well,” De Laurentiis says. “I’ve always been a girly girl my whole life — maybe she will, maybe she won’t — but it’s a lot of fun to play with her right now.”

Christina Applegate's Blog

Courtesy Christina Applegate

Thanks for welcoming Christina Applegate for a four-part blog.

The actress, who stars as Reagan on NBC’s hit comedy Up All Night, is also mom to daughter Sadie Grace, 22 months, with fianc Martyn LeNoble.

Applegate, 40, is the creative partner for, a monthly outfit club for stylish girls sizes 2-8.

She can also be found @1capplegate on Twitter.

In her third blog post for PEOPLE, Applegate is excited to share some of her favorite things for Sadie — and what makes them so special.

One of the best parts about having a child is watching them develop their own very special personality. I love watching Sadie continue to grow and play — it seems as though every single day she is discovering something new!

There are certain moments where Sadie’s personality really shines through. I am completely entertained — enthralled even — watching her play or interact with some of her favorite items. Here’s a list of some of my favorites.

Where She Plays

Sadie can play in her outside playhouse for hours on end, and I could watch her play for just as long. It really is beautiful to see her engaging in such imaginative play. We keep a set of play teapots and teacups and she loves sharing her fake tea. She also loves to make soup — except her pronunciation isn’t so great, and she seems to prefer calling it “poop”! She also loves to clean, and use her broom — and this is without any encouragement from me! A mother’s dream, right?

What She Wears

Fostering expression of her unique personality is something I try to do on every level and it’s so fun to see her express herself through her what she wears! One of her recent favorites is a pair of FabKids jeggings that look like jeans but are made with super soft stretchy fabric (so comfortable that she’s more than happy to keep them on all day!). She pairs these with any and all of her favorite tops — especially her rocker tee — and sometimes a hula skirt too! I love to see her “rocking” her own style.

What She Reads

Speaking of doing things all by herself, one of Sadie’s favorite books is called Timmy and is about a little boy who does everything for himself. Sadie seems to get really inspired by this book, which is both good and bad. Good in the sense that it’s encouraging her to learn how to do things by herself, and bad in the sense that it’s encouraging her to do things all by herself! For instance, now she wants to brush her teeth on her own — which can be a kind of messy experience with less than satisfactory results!

It is so wonderful to see what Sadie discovers each day — and I can’t wait to see what she discovers next!
