When Paula Garces went for an annual check-up at her doctor’s office, she got unexpected news: she was pregnant.
“It’s a miracle!” the actress tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Indeed, the Devious Maids and All My Children star, 39, and her husband Antonio Hernandez, an entrepreneur and producer, had all but given up hope after years of trying for a baby led to two miscarriages.
“We’re excited to finally be pregnant after so many years and make my daughter the best big sister, and my husband an amazing dad,” says Garces, who is best known as Maria from the hit Harold & Kumar franchise.
Garces – already mom to 21-year-old Skye Mahoney from a previous relationship – is thrilled to be expecting again.
“I can’t wait to debut my belly at Comic Con this July,” says Garces, who will also debut her new comic book trilogy Aluna, the namesake of the first Latina video game superhero character.
Another perk of the pregnancy? Once the couple got the great news, Hernandez whisked his wife off to a getaway beach weekend at the Hard Rock Hotel in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, to celebrate.
